The pier

A crowded pier at Elephanta. Elephanta Island was known in ancient times as "Gharapuri" or The Place of Caves. The Portuguese took possession of the island and named it Elephanta after the great statue of an elephant which they found on the seashore. At present, the statue of the elephant is housed at Jijamata Garden in Mumbai.

  2. Your post yesterday and today brings up an interesting question: Elephanta island known as Gharapuri etc., and then named after a great statue of an elephant found on the seashore. I wonder, or the question is who made the elephant? Does anyone know? I think these two posts are about the most interesting ones I have read lately and all for what they don't say.

Here where I live, this Sunday morning it is all of 37 degrees F here in SW Ohio where Tecumseh once ran on paths made by the wood buffalo.
