Peace at last!

As of 1022hrs this morning the news in is that the all terrorists have been eliminated and one arrested. He is apparently singing now and the information that he has given is chilling. Apparently the plans were to blow up and reduce to rubble The Taj and The Oberoi hotels which were considered to be icons of prosperity of Mumbai. This is where it is similar to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre and the blowing up of the JW Marriot hotel in Pakistan. Kudos to our security forces who prevented or rather minimised the damage to lives and property to a great extent. The sanitisation process of the Taj hotel is still underway, after which an exact count of lives lost will be available. Presently the body count stands at 156 and the injured over 300. These include the civilians and the security forces who were martyred.

  4. Presume the official count will be half of the reality....

our police and military have done their job.... and done it well....

Now we turn to the so called leaders (politicians) to see if what they can do.... will it be only finger pointing and than forgetting.... or will the guilty be found and punished, and security tightened up so that nothing like this ever happen again???

Unfortunately i doubt if we will be satisfied with what they do..

  8. The one good thing to come out of this tragic event is my new connection to you, Magiceye.

  13. I'd like to add my voice to the others who express thanksgiving that the ordeal of the seige is over and dismay that it occurred at all. May peace reign in the world, but the minds and actions of those who wish harm to others seem to be spreading. That level of evil is unfathomable to the minds of many of us. I wish that there were a good answer and satisfactory solutions.

  15. The thoughts and prayers of the world are with you and the people of Mumbai. My wife and I stayed at the Taj hotel in Mumbai several years ago, as as you said in today's post, it is indeed an icon of the city. We are anxiously awaiting word from a good friend with whom we visited her family in Mumbai, hoping that all are safe, and hoping that the city and its people recover stronger than ever.

  20. Well if I know Mumbai, it will be back to business on Monday morning. A bit bruised, and certainly sorrowful, but the people there are the most resilient in the world. (As evidenced by the 1992 bombings there.)

My best wishes and hopes are with all those who lost loved ones to the carnage, and with those left to repair the damage.

And my fondest hope is that in Mumbai and everywhere, we find other ways to resolve our differences.

Oh, and this photo is a perfect representation of the moment.

  21. You must be so relieved that it's finally ended but the shock of it will last for a very long time.

The shock felt when the Oklahoma Federal Building was blown up and then the horrific attack on the World Trade Center will never really go away.

Prayers that one day we can live in peace without fear of the crazy terrorists thinking that killing innocent people will help them attain anything meaningful.

Thank you for your lovely photos and keeping us informed and my wish is that your city and country can speedily get back to some semblance of peaceful living.

  23. It is such a relief to know the Indian authorities have gotten complete control of the situation. The numbers of murders and injuries are dreadful, and my heart goes out to your city.

  24. I've been watching the events on TV here and it is like something out of a film. Its just unbelievable to think of the extent of the terrorists plan.

  25. Thank God it's over. Thank you for keeping us updated - it's good to have the personal view as well as the official news sites.

Continuing to think about you and your wonderful city.

  26. I am so saddened by the news that your wonderful country and city has been targeted by terrorists. As I write this the news reports that 197 are dead and the search goes on.

What a wonderful and brave job your military and other security forces did. It sounds as if the staff at the hotels also acted in brave and heroic ways. I applaude you all for standing up to these terrorists as you did and to the bravery of the Indian people.

I hope that the nations of the world will ban together in recognition of the fact that there is no peace without victory. It is a sad but unavoidable lesson of history. The terrorists and their leaders must be caught or killed in order for this terrible plague on humanity to come to an end.
