Saturday Photohunt - Orange

Orange flags fluttering atop Mumbadevi temple. Mumba Devi Temple, is an old Hindu temple in the city of Mumbai (formerly Bombay) dedicated to the goddess Mumbā, the local incarnation of the Devi (Mother Goddess). Marathi Mumbā derives from Sanskrit Mahā-Ambā "Great Mother", and Mumbaī combines the name with aī, the Marathi for "mother". The goddess Mumba was patron of the agri (salt collectors) and kolis (fisherfolk), the original inhabitants of the seven islands of Bombay. It is 6 centuries old.

  2. Nice info. I also read that Mumbai was given that name by the Portugese or something...it means something also to them. I'll look it up....do you know about this?

  3. @Braja.. The city was called Bombay for much of the last four hundred years. The origin of the name is obscure, but is often said to come from the Portuguese phrase bom bahia meaning "good bay".

I finally got around to posting mine, today. Life has been so disjointed with my mother's health.memory issues it is hard to find time for the things I want to do... I need to make time for them, though. Just to keep sane.

  20. It always amazes me to see structures built so long ago outlasting their modern counterparts. Makes you wonder if modern engineering is all that it's cracked up to be, na?
Beautiful photo! I'm guessing you're quite pleased with your new camera now that you've had a chance to get used to it, eh?
