St.Columba school in Gamdevi, South Mumbai is the 1st school for girls in Mumbai, established in 1832.

    1. Hi this is probably very late but,the school was started by Christian missionaries and later imbibed the local plus Christian culture. The founders are John and Margaret Wilson from Scotland.

  12. I don't know whether it's the stone jaali,the solid grey pillars or the artistically juxtaposed Neem Tree-
    but there is something evocative about this picture...

  14. Looks like the girls are well guarded what with those trees and that fence! I'll bet this is one of those strict Catholic schools! I notice the trees have been cut back so the girls can't climb out the window and onto the trees and down to the ground for a night of fun! ;-)

    St.Columba school was established in the year 1832 by the missionaries Margaret and John Wilson, the founders of the John Wilson Education Society (JWES). Before they arrived in India, there were no schools for Girls in the city of Bombay, as it was then known. With the aid of the JWES, Margaret Wilson established this school, which was, later on, accompanied by the Wilson College.

  21. St.Columba,Mumbai used to enroll boys in Primary section upto 4th.Std. I was in Primary Section between 1956 to 1959, then joined Wilson High School. Remember the School beautiful locale.
