Spoilt for choice

Shopping till the bag bursts at the seams in Chor Bazaar's flea market!

  1. Great slice-of-life. It reminds me of a discussion my wife and I had about the plethora of products that are available. It's ridiculous. Why I was growing up there was one kind of Levis! One. Same with khaki pants. And most other things. Today there are thousands of different kinds of jeans. Who needs all this crap? :)

  3. All the choices would overwhelm me. Nice photo of the shoppers, they'll probably find something worth buying.

  4. Puzzled by the name chor bazaar. Been to Mumbai just once for two days. Is it a place where stolen goods are sold?

    1. Chor Bazaar, located in South Mumbai, is one of the largest flea markets in India. The word chor means thief in Marathi and Hindi. The market is thought to have originally been called Shor Bazaar, meaning noisy market. The current name is said to have come from a British mispronunciation. Eventually however, stolen goods started finding their way into the market, resulting in it living up to its new name. According to popular legend, if you lose anything in Mumbai you can buy it back from the "Chor Bazaar". In spite of this reputation, Chor Bazaar is said to sell mostly second-hand goods rather than stolen goods.
