Are these birds dead? I can't imagine anyone here in North America buying chickens, then plucking them, never mind having to slaughter them. It is different with farmers, of course, but the rest of us have been spoiled with pre-prepared food: "Just add water and heat" etc. It was different when I was a little girl, and people kept chickens, even in the town where I grew up. People had gardens, and orchards, and fewer debts and fewer worries. Kay, An Unfittie's Guide to Adventurous Travel
Well, this is one way to do it. I remember my grandmother, who had chickens on her farm, would do all the work herself, from slaughtering, to plucking, to stuffing, to cooking. And her chicken was fabulous! But back in those days (the 40s), she cooked most of the day to feed the family who did the other work on the farm.
Nice captured

The birds are alive but maybe in a coma. They are being bought by a retailer who will slaughter and pluck them for resale.
