This is the station road in Santacruz (East). This road leads to the Santacruz Railway station. Santacruz is a suburb of Mumbai.
The name Santa Cruz comes from the Portugese words meaning Holy Cross. The name was that given to a church that existed on the western side of the railway station. Now the Sacred Hearts Boys' School/Sacred Hearts church occupies that site.

ReplyDeletehave a great day.
The street is beautiful with all the trees. Looks like you have a good mass transit system. We need more of that out here in the western US.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely street, beautiful trees. We could surely use a better transit system in Seattle, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteOh I love street scene. Nice photo of your part of the world. :)
ReplyDeleteYou always have such interesting photos of the streets full of people going about their lives.
ReplyDeleteA nice wide road, and while I do see a scooter, I see no cars. Is it mainly for pedestrians?
ReplyDeleteThought it's in the Philippines as it looks somewhat similar. We also have a place called Santacruz in Manila.
ReplyDeleteSanta Cruz from the Spanish?
ReplyDeleteGood photo. aloha & Namaste
I can relate to the hustle and bustle of Mumbai! Very well captured!
ReplyDeleteTrees in Mumbai.. that is a treat!
ReplyDeleteVery nice and interesting post. Interesting because I think it's not usual to see a name such as "Santacruz" in India, no? What is the story of this name in Mumbai?

Greetings from Finland, we have 1C / 33,8F, so, our spring has started ;)
As a suburban Londoner myself, it is fascinating to see the suburbs, the lesser known parts of another city rather than the popular central areas. Great photo!
ReplyDeleteand i was in this part of your world a couple of days ago :)
ReplyDeleteThe crowns of the trees over the street look amazing, beautiful scenery!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize the Portugese influence extended that far north. Guess I shouldn't be surprised though.
ReplyDeleteThis scene looks straight out of a RGV film!
Oh I like this it would make a perfect painting .. I love the detail in all your photos .. this one especially ..

ReplyDeleteLike all big cities, it's a busy place.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and nicely perspectiv.
ReplyDeleteOh, the Portuguese did get around, didn't they? I am 100% Portuguese and I often aschew my colonialist heritage. I guess we can't change history but we can be mindful of not repeating it. That too often seems like an elusive ideal.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy my visits here. Thank you.
it looks busy !
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful tree lined street. Makes me want to walk into the picture and see where it goes.
