This is Khar subway. It runs underneath a railway bridge to connect Khar East to Khar West. Khar is a tiny suburb sandwiched between tow larger suburbs of Bandra and Santacruz.
The black and yellow vehicles you see are 3wheeler taxis called autorickshaws or popularly called 'autos' or 'ricks'. They ply only in the suburbs and are a very popular mode of transport.
c'est bien avec les DP, on découvre des mondes bien différents, belle photo de cette longue file d'attente it is with the DP, we discovered many different worlds, a beautiful picture of the long queue
Now, let me see, where was I? (I was mid-sentence leaving you a comment last night when the power went out, and it was late so I gave up and went to bed!) Oh yes, I was saying that I'd finally got to see Slumdog Millionaire (loved it!) and in all the city shots was thinking of your blog and trying to see if I recognized anything from your pictures. But it all went by so fast...
I thought those were autos on the right, but I really couldn't tell for sure. I love the light/shadow play here. It's an ordinary setting, but an extraordinary scene.
Great photo -- had me feeling claustrophobic with one glance!
ReplyDeleteGood eye. Are those vans, or taxis of some sort?

ReplyDeleteInteresting to see transportation in your city. Nice shot showing the bridge crossrails above.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to learn there is a Santacruz town in India. I wonder if the Spanish got to India during the old times.

Looks a little tight...you wouldn't want to have a breakdown in there, right?
ReplyDeleteGreat Photo, but as Sylvia said - gives a bit claustrophobic feeling!
ReplyDeleteyeah i recognized it immediately because of the overhead tracks!
ReplyDeleteNice slice of layered urban suburbia. The spotted light added a lot.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot!
ReplyDeleteThe journey is well captured.
I love the autorikshaws... Mumbai autorickshw walas are really nice as they do not overcharge or dupe anyone... unlike the Delhi autowalas.

I am so lucky, we rarely get traffic jams. I tooo was wondering what the transport was as they look like taxis.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the subway was created only for auto rickshaws :)

ReplyDeleteVery busy indeed , I didn't know about "autorickshaws".This kind of "taxis" are so big and that windows so small!
By the way...The driver use to be on the left side inside the car?
Kind Regards

I love seeing the line of rickshaws under the subway - great eye!
ReplyDeleteI never would have guessed this is Mumbai - so urban and busy! :)
ReplyDeleteThe tunnel seems very low, maybe it is just for small vehicles like the ricks.
