It is an Indian tradition Lowell. 'Atithi Deva Bhava' or 'Guest is God' and hence traditionally all guests are welcomed with flowers :)

the flowers in India are amazing. I like seeing these welcoming flowers strung together. It is funny that we don't seem to see very many flowers done like this in America but we do when going to other countries.
