Koli Holi

Holi is a Hindu spring festival celebrated in India and Nepal, also known as the "festival of colours" or the "festival of love". For Kolis (fishing community) it is a time to parade their best. All the coastal villages in Mumbai celebrate it in their unique fashion. This image is from 'Vesave' or 'Versova' a fishing community village in Andheri, a Mumbai suburb. Holi was celebrated on 12th and 13th March 2017. The 1st day is celebrated as Holika dahan signifying the victory of good over evil. Holika was a demoness in Hindu Vedic scriptures, who was burnt to death with the help of God Vishnu. The story of Holika dahan signifies the triumph of good over evil. I shall post a pic a day over the next few days to show how it is celebrated by the Kolis.

Hill Road

Hill road in Bandra west on a Sunday early morning. This is a road with high density and volume of traffic hence a pleasure to see it like this. The row of houses surprisingly untouched by builders yet to convert them into shopping malls or apartment monstrosities.

Rural ambiance

A bylane off the Bandra (west) station, like most bylanes in Bandra, has retained a rural flavour.
