Also building..

These are workers at a different level - the organised sector. The difference in the working conditions as against the previous picture is obvious.

Roof building

These daily wage earners risk their lives building a roof as a protection from rains for a private company. This is not unusual and reflects on the rampant exploitation of labour.

Mangroves..

Mangroves that are slowly making way for 'development' in Bandra (East). Mangroves are considered to be very important ecologically but the builder lobby along with politicians think otherwise leading to the decimation of ecological balance. Quite a few non governmental organizations have taken up cudgels to save our delicate environment. Hope common sense prevails over Mammon.

Kerbside temple

A kerbside temple in the Bandra Kurla Complex dedicated to 'Sai Baba' whose devotees are from all religions! Religion is exploited bigtime in Mumbai - commercially and politically.

BKC

This is a very important junction as it connects the eastern suburbs with the western. Kurla - at the other end is also a very important suburb of Mumbai. It has a major train terminus, just as Bandra. This photograph was taken in the early hours of the morning hence looks relaxed, or else this place is teeming with traffic.

Leaning tree of Bandra...

Every time I pass this tree it fascinates me. I call it the leaning tree of Bandra (East)! It has withstood many a storm when more erect trees have been felled but this one leaned through it all!

Auto wash..

The autorickshaws getting ready for the day by being washed. The drivers can be standing and chatting at the bottom of the photograph while the last 'auto' or 'rick' is being washed. The autorickshaw is the cheaper version of a taxi and is allowed to operate only in the suburbs of Mumbai.

Retailers...

It is retailers like these that are driving out the door to door sellers. Nowadays there is nobody at home to buy from the door to door vegetable and fruit vendors who carry on their trade only during day time. So people prefer to pick up their requirements from retail marts on their way back from work.

Fruit n nut...

The fruit n nut vendors taking a break. The guy on the left is selling mangoes and the guy on the right sells chickpeas and peanuts. They do door to door sales.
