Ready to eat

The famous Alphonso mango, popularly known as Hapoos, cut and diced, ready to eat. Actually it is best eaten whole, skinning it with one's teeth and then biting into the delicious sweet flesh with its juice streaming down to the elbow, finishing it off by sucking on the seed, not a bit of flesh left behind. It's an art!

The Hapoos Mango

It's the mango season and the Hapoos mango is here! Hapoos is the Indianised name of the delicious Alphonso mango.

The 'Alphonso' mango is a named mango cultivar that originated in India. The variety is named after Afonso de Albuquerque, a Portuguese general and military expert who helped establish Portuguese colonies in India. The Portuguese introduced grafting on mango trees to produce varieties like Alphonso. The Alphonso is also one of the most expensive varieties of mango, and is grown mainly in western India. Windows

Bare windows of Sion Fort.

The Sion Hillock Fort was built under the regime of the English East India Company, between 1669 and 1677, atop a conical hillock when Gerard Aungier was the Governor of Bombay. When it was built, the fort marked the boundary between British-held Parel island and the Portuguese held Salsette Island that lay to the north across the creek.
