Khauttays are rice cakes prepared by wrapping the batter in cones/cups of woven Jackfruit leaves and steaming them like idlis
The taste and aroma is unique and wonderful! They are prepared only on special occasions. They are the original form of idlis which are steamed in steel containers.

ReplyDelete"Louis" learned something new by stopping and visiting your "K" post! Very interesting! "Louis" doesn't remember seeing these on the menus of Indian restaurants here - so they must indeed be special.
ReplyDeleteThat's very prettily prepared food! And it looks as if it could be fast food, too - eaten on the run! Though maybe, since it's special occasion food, it would be wrong to do that.
ReplyDeleteIs there any flavouring in these little cakes?
It looks like the Zongzi in Chinese culture, must be dilicious...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try one.. are they sweet or salty? Do you eat them with a special sauce?
ReplyDeleteNever tasted those but they look great... like Greek ndolmadakia...
ReplyDeleteWould love to try these! And the perfect environmentally friendly wrapper!
ReplyDeleteThey sound interesting. What flavor does the jackfruit leaf infuse into the rice?
