Atop the Bandra-Worli Sealink

Click on the picture to enjoy an enlarged view.
Radio One, Mumbai a very popular FM radio channel, whose tagline reads - One Spirit One Mumbai, yesterday invited a few of its regular listeners to visit the soon to be opened Bandra-Worli Sealink that is going to be one of the most visited icons of Mumbai like the Sydney Harbor Bridge (Australia), San Fransico's Golden Gate Bridge (USA) or the London Bridge (UK). I was one of the lucky few to be invited for the preview.
In the bottom left frame is Mr.Jimmy Mogal, Vice President, Corporate Communications of HCC (Hindustan Construction Co.Ltd), giving us the low down on the project.
The frame at the bottom centre is the group with the Cable stayed Towers in the background. We were taken in a caged elevator up the central column that you can see inbetween the towers to a height of 100metres. The height of the towers is 126metres.
In the extreme right bottom frame is Kunal who fulfilled his dream of fluttering our national flag at the top of the Tower.
At the top left is the model of the cable stayed part of the bridge and in between the awesome views from the top is the most famous Radio Jockey of Mumbai from Radio One - Tarana along with Aniruddh and Annie, broadcasting live from the top of the Tower - another first for Radio One!
This visit, with the assistance of HCC, was hosted by Radio One to strengthen the sense of pride and belonging among the Mumbaikars during these troubled times that our city has been going through.

  3. Cool shots, if a little scary (my issue entirely, nothing to do with the photos!!). I saw on the news list night the linked-hands group in the city. Were you anywhere near that?

  4. What a great experience. I am so glad it went off without being the target of fanatics. I think that qualifies as understatement.

  8. Beautiful bridge, must have been a thrilling experience.

BTW the London Bridge is no longer in the UK, its in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, USA. It was sold to a man named Robert McColloch for $2,460,000 US in 1962. McCulloch dismantled the bridge shipped it to the US and then reassembled it in Lake Havasu City.

  11. Right away, my word, "awesome" was taken by the first commenter, but I'll use it anyway. That must have been an awesome experience! I'm afraid of heights, and especially of edges up high. I don't know if I could have gone there. Thanks for the pics, though!

If I'm not mistaken, my heartthrob Urmila (♥swoon♥) keeps her home in Bandra. You could probably see it from there.

The eagerly awaited Wednesday Bandra-Worli Link is ready to be inaugurated by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. India is the first cable-stayed bridge is open, which would reduce from 40 minutes to 8 minutes.

The Rs 1.634 crore 8-tracks is ready to open, after nearly five years of delay and dispute, on Tuesday. This link-Wednesday will be a relief for commuters between the western suburbs of Bandra Worli in South Central Mumbai, in just eight minutes.

The project was designed at a cost of Rs 300 crore to be completed in 2004. The cost has increased by six folds at Rs 1.600 crore due to changes in plans and other delays.

The speed limit has been said to 80kmph but will be lowered to 50 km / h.
