That's my world

This is the station road in Santacruz (East). This road leads to the Santacruz Railway station. Santacruz is a suburb of Mumbai.
The name Santa Cruz comes from the Portugese words meaning Holy Cross. The name was that given to a church that existed on the western side of the railway station. Now the Sacred Hearts Boys' School/Sacred Hearts church occupies that site.

  4. The street is beautiful with all the trees. Looks like you have a good mass transit system. We need more of that out here in the western US.

  5. What a lovely street, beautiful trees. We could surely use a better transit system in Seattle, that's for sure!

  8. A nice wide road, and while I do see a scooter, I see no cars. Is it mainly for pedestrians?

  9. Thought it's in the Philippines as it looks somewhat similar. We also have a place called Santacruz in Manila.

  13. Very nice and interesting post. Interesting because I think it's not usual to see a name such as "Santacruz" in India, no? What is the story of this name in Mumbai?

    Best regards,

  20. As a suburban Londoner myself, it is fascinating to see the suburbs, the lesser known parts of another city rather than the popular central areas. Great photo!

  23. I didn't realize the Portugese influence extended that far north. Guess I shouldn't be surprised though.

This scene looks straight out of a RGV film!

  30. Oh, the Portuguese did get around, didn't they? I am 100% Portuguese and I often aschew my colonialist heritage. I guess we can't change history but we can be mindful of not repeating it. That too often seems like an elusive ideal.

I always enjoy my visits here. Thank you.
