Near extinction is the House sparrow in urban India today. This house sparrow was busy in the lawn of Durgadevi mandir atop Gilbert Hill in Andheri, Mumbai.

I think I've seen birds like this one -- or its cousin species -- in both Malaysia and Hong Kong, and in quite large numbers. So it's really hard for me to think that they're near extinction in Mumbai! :O
Good Morning Such gentle creatures- add beauty to life around us.Childrens stories on Gupchi-ka abound; As children in early 50s..in fact till 70s we used to see them nest in our homes on crevices in roofs & ceilings; -but sadly have been depleting in cities. Now mostly seen in smaller towns , places esp where traditional houses exist-but happily Mumbai has many of them. God Protect them - Thanks -TR
Sparrows are thought to be under threat in England too but there are a lot where I live - and it's hard to think such an ordinary bird can find life tough. Do you know why its numbers are going down in India?
wow! After a long long long time, I saw this sparrow. Few days back, I was talking to my cousin how these little sparrows used to be seen every where and now you never see them. Great click. How old is this photograph?
I won't ask you how you managed to capture a sparrow sitting still, because I won't understand any of the photographic details. suffice to say that it is a stunning pic and she is a beauty.
Beautiful close up click.
