Wonderful-magnificent tree- It is nice to see many Banyan trees in Mumbai-(-even in VT area -within a radius of 2 km-) The name was originally given to F. benghalensis-from travellers-Traders ( Banias) as the local /desi term goes In the Gujarati banya means "grocer/merchant.The term by 1600s was in English -ref banyan tree under which local merchants would do business.& rest shade-- merchants to sell their goods. Eventually "banyan" became the name of the tree itself. Few even call it as Vata Vriksha of Chp 15 Gita (Inverted tree -aerial roots) or realise it is in Shree Vishnu Sahasranama as Nygrodha (with Ashwattha & O/ U dumbara --Thanks,-rgds TR
This reminded me of John Lennon's hair for some reason. And the song "Imagine" which was such a favorite in my time. If only the tree could sway these hanging roots and sing .....
Imagine there's no traffic It's easy if you try No potholes below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people breathing free for today...
Imagine there's no corporators It isn't hard to do Nothing to cheat or bribe for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace...
You may say I'm optimistic But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the road will be as one
Imagine no political banners I wonder if you can No need for decibeled slogans A silenthood of man Imagine all the people Smiling at the world...
You may say I'm optimistic But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as on
There are a lot of banyan trees in south Florida - some quite large and beautiful like this one. I was interested in the road, though, which looks very narrow and unpaved. Any trip on that road will take some time, right?
