Ganapati Bappa Morya

'Ganapati Bappa Morya' (Praise the Lord) are the cries that Mumbai will reverberate today with, to mark the end of the Lord Ganesh festivities. All the idols will be immersed today.
P.S. In response to Carol - Hindu deities are seen to be accessed through points of symbolic focus known as murtis. For this reason, the immersion of the murtis of Lord Ganesha in nearby holy rivers is undertaken since the murtis are acknowledged to be only temporal understandings of a higher being as opposed to being 'idols,' which have traditionally been seen as objects worshipped for their own sake as divine.

ABC Wednesday - G for Gloria Church

Gloria Church (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora de Gloria) is one of the oldest Roman Catholic churches in Mumbai built by the Portuguese Franciscans in 1632. The church is situated in the Byculla suburb of Mumbai. The original Gloria Church, was built in 1632 by the Franciscans funded by the DeSouza E’Lima family, who owned the Mazagaon island which they procured from the King of Portugal in 1572. The old church was demolished in 1911 and the present one was built at Byculla. The modern Gloria church was built in English Gothic style. The church’s beauty has inspired many filmmakers to shoot their films on its premises. Prominent among them was Manmohan Desai’s Amar Akbar Anthony, released in 1977.

The Bandra-Worli sealink is India's first eight-lane (currently only 4 lanes are in service) freeway over the open sea and is hailed as a modern Indian engineering marvel. Few statistics about the bridge are: The bridge weighs 670,000 tons, which is equivalent to 50000 African elephants, the length of the bridge is 4.77 km, the height of the cable-stayed tower is 126m(equal to a 43-storey tower), and the length of steel wires used in the project is equivalent to the circumference of the Earth(each cable can take a weight of 900 tons). It was built by a team comprising of engineers from India as well as other countries including Britain, Canada, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Serbia, Singapore and Switzerland.
