The autorickshaws getting ready for the day by being washed. The drivers can be standing and chatting at the bottom of the photograph while the last 'auto' or 'rick' is being washed. The autorickshaw is the cheaper version of a taxi and is allowed to operate only in the suburbs of Mumbai.
That is a nice photograph and the narrative is very informative. I have seen several of these vehicles today and one was peddle powered by humans.
ReplyDeletelooks kind of similar to our tricycles ... :)
ReplyDeleteoh, really like the perspective.
ReplyDeleteDo the taxis then have priority and different rights?
ReplyDeleteTaxis can ply in the city and suburbs while autos can do so only in the suburbs.
ReplyDeleteAnd then of course taxis being 4wheelers are more comfortable for longer distances and can carry more luggage and people as compared to 3wheeled autos but of course for a higher price.
It would be nice if we had some of these cheaper taxis also here in Paris - and especially more taxis. There are now some motor bike taxis, but they are also quite expensive and basically used for going to or from the airports during rush hours.
ReplyDeleteThe auto's look "cute" and flexible.., less handicapped than a taxi at times by "everybody else"..in the way..
ReplyDeleteI am still puzzled though where "the suburbs" start..I know my friends take "an auto" at times. Would that make Matunga.-or part of it -(with lanes, and lovely trees) a "suburb"..?
The 'suburbs' start at 'Bandra' on the western side and beyond 'sion' on the eastern.
ReplyDeleteMatunga is not suburbian hence no autos :( It is very close though. At places where the 'auto' territory ends, there will be taxis awaiting to take the passengers further.
