Well, the yellow curb indicates the presence of it -- all you need is a connection and I can see the top of it so I hardly think it is useless. It looks very odd tho compared to those most of us are used to seeing.
If you think that's odd, come and see my entry for today!
Good catch! Not sure if you saw the fire hydrant on Chuck Pefley's Seattle DP blog... http://almostoneaday.blogspot.com/2008/06/neighborhood-pride.html
...I've been trying to find one in Chennai ever since! Thanks to your clue, I shall set my sights lower!!
That's funny! It is burned under the pavement.
ReplyDeleteDon't you have a similar belief in Indians religions that a saviour will come and save the earth?
a good one!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea that old things, no longer used, are left for others to see and enjoy. Surely something will happen besides people stumbling over it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why it was not repaired or removed?
Weird... how about we have a Weird Wednesday... :)
ReplyDeleteOdder than odd, anyway.
Seems like city workers ought to have rescued this rather than bury it!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's for firemen under 5' tall? ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat choice for "Odd Shots!"
Hahaha, too odd and funny at same time! Good catch!
ReplyDeleteThat is not odd. It is catastrophic in case of fire.
ReplyDelete:)
What a sight! And a very good reason to be careful not to start any fires nearby!

Hahaha ! very useful !!
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if it really is a fire hydrant, looks more like a drain pipe, certainly couldn't get a hose connected to it. Very odd indeed

Now that is not only odd it's really fun.
ReplyDeleteI hope there's not a fire nearby. very nice odd shot!
ReplyDeleteVery funny! Glad the road builders took time to think about the problems of a buried hydrant!
ReplyDeleteHow strange! And a hole under the kerb-stone, too. Very odd.
ReplyDeleteEven more odd to us here in the UK as our fire hydrants are all underground.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. It doesn't look healthy does it.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen anyone use one in Bombay. Have you?
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious! What a perfect shot!
ReplyDelete@web-oj... no havent either. they are mere decorative pieces i think - a relic from the fiery past?!
ReplyDeleteSo they have built a road round the hydrant???? Hilarious shot!
ReplyDeleteALL your photos are wonderful ... I hope someday to visit India
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
