It is very Silly that a heritage fountain in the Crawford Market in Mumbai is painted in garish colours and used for storing fruit baskets. This fountain was designed by Lockwood Kipling - father of Rudyard Kipling.

Oh goodness. What a thing to do to a heritage item!
ReplyDeleteBut who am I to speak? Just saw some friezes in the City of Manila that were painted just as garishly. Horrible :(
Very silly indeed. But colorful, for sure. I've never heard the name, Lockwood Kipling, but I'm sure I've always assumed that Rudyard had to have a father.
ReplyDeleteYou've taught me something new, that Rudyard's father was called Lockwood. Your photo is very interesting. I wonder what he was thinking when he designed this structure?
ReplyDeleteQuite an interesting image :)
ReplyDeletec'est une belle création, j'aime bien
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing us this treasure!
ReplyDeleteAloha & Namate-
It is strange indeed and tha waste of such a beauty. The fountain is amazing.
ReplyDeletethe history involved in that fountain warrants better treatment!
ReplyDeleteHere in the UK the present government would probably tell them to pull it down and rebuild it.....
ReplyDeleteWell now I'm wondering if the fountain was originally painted that way or if someone came along later and did it. Either way, it deserves better than to be used as a display case. But I suppose you use what you have, na?
ReplyDeleteI agree, that looks rather odd, lol !
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun place!
ReplyDeleteVery silly, but I think it is pretty!
ReplyDeleteSilly in a very odd way ..

ReplyDeleteWonderful colors to add to the silliness!
ReplyDeleteYes, strange new use.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that the fountain was designed by Rudyard's father. It's a little silly maybe, but uprobably a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteKipling would most likely be mortified, shocked even. Very silly indeed...
ReplyDeleteIncredible that the famous Kipling family are connected with this fountain! Yes! It is silly that such an icon has slumped to this!
