Water woes

These water tankers are a common sight in the suburbs of Mumbai where the housing and population is growing faster than the infrastructure leading to severe water shortages. It is then that these tankers which are the most sought after for a partial solution to the problem. It has become such an established business now that there are rumours of a 'water tanker mafia' which tries its best to ensure that there is a perennial water shortage by ensuring that the laying of new water pipelines are delayed as much as possible. Obviously all this is done with the assistance of local politicians who get fattened at the expense of the common man.

Pigeon

It had started drizzling when this pigeon came and sat on the window sill asking to be photographed and posted on CDPB. I obliged as it was an irresistible opportunity. Pigeons along with crows and sparrows rule the roost in Mumbai.

Traffic

This junction is the one where one has to turn to go to the domestic airport. Due to the construction of the flyover, there is traffic hold up almost any time of the day. It is to such an extent that the authorities have notified all those going to the airport to expect at least an hour's delay in reaching the airport and to start early from wherever you are to ensure that you dont miss your flight!

Space crunch

Mumbai is the city to make ones dreams come true. The city that affords opportunities to all those willing to work their butts off! Hence, it is overcrowded to the last mm of space available. Mumbai also had the dubious distinction of hosting the biggest slum in Asia, in a place called Dharavi. But now most of these slums are being demolished and the slum dwellers being given decent housing by the city fathers. These slums are not easily demolished because they have become votebanks for the local politicians.
