Vilay Parlay
A view of the Vile Parle (pronounced as Vilay Parlay) Railway station on the eastern side. The local railway line connecting the city to its far flung suburbs runs south(city)-north(suburbs) hence every station has an eastern and western side to it. The crowds are missing as it is a Sunday afternoon. It is a suburb of Mumbai city.

Water woes
These water tankers are a common sight in the suburbs of Mumbai where the housing and population is growing faster than the infrastructure leading to severe water shortages. It is then that these tankers which are the most sought after for a partial solution to the problem. It has become such an established business now that there are rumours of a 'water tanker mafia' which tries its best to ensure that there is a perennial water shortage by ensuring that the laying of new water pipelines are delayed as much as possible. Obviously all this is done with the assistance of local politicians who get fattened at the expense of the common man.

Traffic
This junction is the one where one has to turn to go to the domestic airport. Due to the construction of the flyover, there is traffic hold up almost any time of the day. It is to such an extent that the authorities have notified all those going to the airport to expect at least an hour's delay in reaching the airport and to start early from wherever you are to ensure that you dont miss your flight!

Space crunch
Mumbai is the city to make ones dreams come true. The city that affords opportunities to all those willing to work their butts off! Hence, it is overcrowded to the last mm of space available. Mumbai also had the dubious distinction of hosting the biggest slum in Asia, in a place called Dharavi. But now most of these slums are being demolished and the slum dwellers being given decent housing by the city fathers. These slums are not easily demolished because they have become votebanks for the local politicians.

Sadhya
The 'sadhya' is an assortment of curries, rice, appams(like pancakes), rasam(soup) and payasam(dessert) along with papadums, onion rings and banana chips, all served on a banana leaf placed on a tray. This was the speciality of the day at the speciality restaurant 'Rice Boat' in Bandra, a suburb of Mumbai.

Lord of the Bells!
Ghanteshwar or Lord of the Bells, is the temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman (monkey God). This is in Khar, a suburb of Mumbai. Devotees donate a bell to the temple as and when their wishes are fulfilled. Looking at the number of bells it surely seems like a lot of people have had their wishes granted by praying here! From tomorrow we will see the temple and its bells from many different angles and closeups too.

Numbers - Theme Day
This is a picture of the Ghanteshwar temple in Khar - a suburb of Mumbai. This temple has a very interesting story which I shall reveal in later posts.
'Established 1960' is written in the Devanagiri script. This script is used to write in 'Hindi' and 'Marathi' languages - Hindi is the national language of India and Marathi is the State language of Maharashtra which celebrates its birth today!
The group of letters on the left reads established and the group of numbers on the right reads 1960 and refers to the establishment of the temple.
